Welcome to the Youth Ambassador Project!
The Youth Ambassadors programme offers young people age 15+ a wonderful opportunity to contribute to overseas development while at the same time learning about other cultures and language. All food and accommodation is provided by the host. Youth Ambassadors work with overseas Chinese organisations and consider and discuss a broad range of topics that include health, environment, rural development, history, poverty, governance, education and infrastructure development. Their experience is enriched by living and working in a cross-cultural environment.
Youth Ambassadors use their own individual skills and expertise to actively contribute to the British/Chinese culture exchange. They gain an increased understanding of the needs of international development and broaden their global vision. We recognise the power and potential that our young volunteers can offer
Youth Ambassadors are passionate about the world we share and our volunteers make a positive difference to the communities in which they live. They will help co-ordinate wider communities to work together. We believe our young volunteers influence our world and people around us through hard work and engaging in active learning. As the global community we live in becomes increasingly interdependent and subject to change, today's young people will face numerous challenges on the journey to becoming tomorrow's leaders. We believe this experience can help young people of both nationalities embrace those challenges and discover new opportunities that will help them dream and achieve more than they ever thought possible.
Achievements of our Youth Ambassadors
In Summer 2007, we launched our Youth Ambassador Project: an organized trip to Beijing and Wuhan cities, China, where our Ambassadors visited local schools and youth centres and much more. During the trip our Youth Ambassadors wrote insightful diary accounts about each day. Each account varied so greatly in opinions and personality that we decided in Spring 2008 to compile our first book: Manchester Youth Ambassadors – Journey to the East (funded by the Big Boots and Manchester Chinese Centre). In Summer 2008, Chinese Youth Ambassadors from Wuhan city visited Manchester, which brought great excitement and development to the project.
We help you bring Global charity work to life
For Summer 2009 we have planned the 'Youth Ambassador Project in Beijing and Shanghai universities'. The young volunteers will teach English to Chinese children at a Summer Camp, work in a special orphan village, an old peoples' home and run British- culture workshops in Beijing and Shanghai cities. These workshops will help raise awareness about the issues surrounding global poverty, geography, politics, history, environments, global world vision and charity work for local communities and overseas communities.
Do you know any young people motivated by the issues of global poverty who would like to make a difference and change lives?
In 2010, our next project will work with poverty- stricken children and families in China. We are constantly on the lookout for dedicated volunteers to help us shape our work with young people. Please contact our Youth Ambassador team: Eleanor Wong or Sandy Tsin email: info@mchinesecentre.org.uk
